2006 - 2007 Class Gift Ideas
1) Enhance the Topiary Testudo
The 2004 Class Gift provided the Topiary Testudo, and a site has been selected in front of Cole Student Activities Building. Site materials (plaza and plantings) and furnishings (benches, etc) are not funded. The statue is scheduled to be installed this Autumn, but the site will be unfinished. This class gift would include providing landscaping, benches, and other plantings and furnishings in the space. (NOTE: The topiary was provided by the 2004 class gift)
2) Northgate Park
This class gift would be the design a park at the entry onto campus. This would bridge the city of College Park and the University. The University and the City of College Park, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Resources, developed plans for a park on land shared by the University, the City and M-NCPPC north of the US Route 1 bridge crossing Paint Branch. The class gift would contribute to prominent features (gateway, meadow, environmental educational walkway, orchard) for this proposed major entry to the Campus.
3) Calvert Statue
As part of the 150th Anniversary of the Charter of the University of Maryland, and commemorations that will be occurring throughout the year, a project to install a statue of Charles Benedict Calvert on the base provided in front of Montgomery Hall could be resurrected.
